Dylan’s Direction Home

July 20 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

$5

Local Bob Dylan junkie Jamie Lorentzen will consider Minnesota Native Son Bob Dylan’s influence on 1960s popular culture and beyond, apocryphal links to Red Wing, and thoughts about Minnesota that the singer-songwriter has offered over the years. Based upon Dylan’s vast body of work and career, the remainder of the discussion will consider where Dylan might locate the place and meaning of his own home against the backdrop of the most iconic and central question he poses amid his 600+ song list – a question that has dependably elicited a cacophony of ecstatic and affirming screams from many hundreds of thousands of concert fans from more than 2,000 times between 1965 and 2016: “How does it feel/To be without a home/Like a complete unknown/Like a rolling stone?”

This dynamic and engaging presentation is in conjunction with the temporary exhibit Coming of Age: The 1968 Generation, which will be on view at the History Center until November 12, 2017.
