Free Family Fun Day: Back to the Sixties!

June 4, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Check out Free Family Fun Day at the Goodhue County History Center! From 12-4 PM on Sunday, June 4, visit the museum and travel back to the 1960s.

Bring the whole family for an afternoon of fun and learning at the History Center. Throughout the afternoon, visitors can play with games and toys from the 1960s and dance to music, provided by Vyntage Vinyl. These activities will shape an afternoon experience which may resemble an afternoon growing up in the 1960s.

Become a flower child! Anna from ArtReach will engage families in a hands-on flower power activity.

Don Strong will lead two songwriting workshops. Participants will examine Bob Dylan’s “Blowing in the Wind” in order to learn about music from the decade and how songwriters incorporate form, rhyme scheme, and imagery into their lyrics. Then, everyone in the audience will work together to write a song in the style of music from that decade.

Don Strong is the artistic director and founder of Songwriters Circle / Twin Cities, a not-for-profit organization that supports local songwriters with workshops on the art and craft of songwriting. He also produces and hosts monthly songwriter showcases and songwriter open mics at a variety of music venues. Don is a long-time teacher, music produce, and avid performing musician in the Twin Cities area. You can learn more information about the group by clicking here and Don Strong by clicking here.

This event is held in conjunction with the History Center hosting Coming of Age:  The 1968 Generation, a traveling exhibit from the Minnesota Historical Society.

Free admission and activities begin at 12 PM.  This event is made possible through the support of Xcel Energy.
