Check out Free Family Fun Day at the Goodhue County History Center! From 12-4 PM on Sunday, May 7, visit the History Center to celebrate Minnesota’s 159th birthday. On May 11, 1858 the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” entered the Union as the 32nd state. Join the Goodhue County Historical Society in celebration of the state and to honor a few of the things that makes Minnesota so great!
The Sons of Norway will demonstrate how to make delicious lefse, a traditional soft Norwegian flatbread. Norwegians were one of the first European immigrants to settle in Minnesota, their influence is seen throughout the state. During this demonstration you will learn how to make lefse, taste-test a piece or two, and have the opportunity to bring the recipe home with you.
Our friends at ArtReach will encourage you to express your creativity during a hands-on activity.
At 1 PM and 2 PM V is for Viking will be read aloud. This book emphasizes some of the unique and wonderful inventions, stories, natural wonders, and influential people, and characteristics of Minnesota, from A to Z. Families can use this book as inspiration to write their own acrostic poem about what they love most about this beautiful state.
Free admission and activities begin at 12 PM. This event is made possible through the support of Xcel Energy.
