History Break: Cultural Change in Red Wing from AD 900 – 1500

April 18 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Wednesday, April 18
Featuring Dr. Ron Schirmer, Director, Museum of Anthropology, Co-Director, AGES Research Lab, Professor of Anthropology at Minnesota State University, Mankato

In our busy lives, seemingly beset with a constant barrage of changes, it is easy to forget that past humans have also dealt with major, and fast-paced changes in their lives and environments. Between AD 900 and 1500, the Red Wing area rapidly transformed from being sparsely occupied by hunting and gathering peoples, to densely occupied by agriculturalists at the center of a massive regional interaction circuit, to being almost entirely abandoned – all in less than 600 years! In this talk, Dr. Schirmer will guide you through what we know about this fascinating and important story.
