Author Frederick Johnson offers an illustrated talk covering Tatankamani [Walking Buffalo/Red Wing] and the Mdewakanton village he established, through the growing Euro-American presence, to city of Red Wing’s official 1857 birth.

Red Wing native Frederick Johnson has to his credit twelve books about Minnesota history along with numerous magazine articles in respected journals including Minnesota History, Aviation History, Minnesota Genealogist, MinnPost, and MNopedia. Five of his books specifically cover Red Wing history. His critically acclaimed Goodhue County, Minnesota: A Narrative History was labeled a model for historical societies to follow.
