History Break: : The Steamboat War Eagle and boating on the Upper Mississippi

March 15 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

“Robert Taunt of La Crosse, Wi. is an Upper Mississippi river historian.  He is a subject matter expert on the Steamboat War Eagle, a boat as well known in the 1860s as the Delta Queen is today.  Bob recently published a book about the boat, which made regular stops at Red Wing during her long life from 1854 to 1870.  Bob will give a colorful PowerPoint presentation about the War Eagle and some of the fascinating stories of steamboating on our upper Mississippi river.  Bob is a writer and photographer, past president of the La Crosse County Historical Society, who has presented river history talks from Dubuque to Prescott.  There is great history on the Upper Mississippi, as much as Mark Twain wrote about on the Lower.”
