When Wheat Was King

October 14, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Industrious Cannon Valley millers established the state’s first flour milling center along the Cannon River and its tributaries. It all began with an abundance of natural resources – fertile black soil, rapidly-flowing creeks and rivers, Big Woods timber, and plenty of native limestone. When these assets were harnessed by Cannon Valley millers, the outcome changed history. Join us to learn about Goodhue County flour mills when wheat was king!

The presenter is Jeff Jarvis, a writer, artist and historian. Jeff has been researching the mills of the Cannon Valley from Waterville to Red Wing for 14 years. For more information, see www.cannonvalleymills.com or https://westcedarstudio.com/history-projects/historic-mills-of-the-cannon-valley/.
