$18 – $20.00 commensurate with experience

Position
Summary: Education & Outreach Coordinator will
be responsible for the development and implementation of programs serving both
adults and youth. He/she will plan an
annual calendar of programming that allows the Goodhue County Historical
Society to meet its mission and provides a diverse offering of topics to reach
many different audiences.

Major
Duties:
1. Youth
Education & Programs— Education & Outreach Coordinator will develop programs
geared toward youth to promote an understanding of and appreciation for
history. Programs will be created to
meet Minnesota education standards in social studies and other
disciplines. Variations may be created
to apply to club or youth organization needs such as Boy or Girl Scout badge
requirements. Coordinator will utilize
various methods of instruction to keep programs vibrant and interesting. He/she is responsible for the creation and
dissemination of marketing materials related to programs. Assist in grant
writing to support programs.
2. Adult
Education & Programs— Education & Outreach
Coordinator will develop programs geared toward adults to promote an
understanding of and appreciation for history.
Programs will cover a variety of topics to meet the needs of diverse
audiences. Coordinator will utilize
various methods of instruction to keep programs vibrant and interesting. He/she is responsible for the creation and
dissemination of marketing materials related to programs. Assist in grant
writing to support programs.
3.
Outreach Events— Education & Outreach
Coordinator will seek outreach opportunities and events to promote the Goodhue
County Historical Society and its mission.
Events may include community festivals, partnerships with local organizations,
and public events where GCHS presence would be beneficial.
4.
Volunteer Coordination—Education
& Outreach Coordinator will coordinate volunteers for events, programs, and
special projects to meet the needs of the Goodhue County Historical
Society. He/she will record volunteer
hours, post needs as requested by staff, and assist with planning volunteer
recognition events.
5.
Other duties—Education
& Outreach Coordinator may be assigned other duties to assist with special
projects or events by the Executive Director as necessary. Serve as the staff member on the Education
& Outreach Committee.
General
Requirements
- Must be able
to lift 50 lbs. or more on occasion.
- Must be able
to stand or sit for long periods of time.
- Must have an
outgoing personality and be able to interact with people of all ages.
- Must be
comfortable presenting and speaking to large groups of people.
- Should be
able to work independently or as a team member.
- Must be
flexible in assisting with other areas of museum operations outside of job
duties.
- Must be
self-motivated.
- Knowledge of
Microsoft Office programs particularly Word, Power Point, and Publisher
are preferred.
- Ability to
utilize or learn various marketing mechanisms particularly social media
platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
- Ability to
work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Reliable
transportation in order to fulfill obligations related to outreach events.
Minimum
Qualifications
- Bachelors or higher degree in Education or History
preferred but related fields are acceptable.
- At least 1year
of experience is required in one of the following areas: 1) working or volunteering in a
classroom or educational setting, or 2) working or volunteering in a
museum or nonprofit. Preference for
candidate having experience with educational programming and outreach.
- Knowledge of or the willingness to learn a variety of
interpretive methods as well as instruction methods.

Organizational Information
The Goodhue County Historical
Society is the first and oldest continuously operating Historical Society in
Minnesota. The Society’s History Center
at 1166 Oak Street is a 28,000 square foot facility situated on park-like bluff
lands overlooking historic downtown Red Wing, the boathouse village, and the
Mississippi River Valley. The Goodhue
County History Center collection encompasses approximately 250,000 historic
artifacts including objects, paper documents, clothing, and photographs
relating to the Goodhue County area.
